nice weather today, isn't it?
The sun came out today after a weekend of rain and wind, after most of the previous week was dull and grey. And as I was on delivery I met a man in an elevator who commented that it was nice today. This is far from atypical; people see a messenger in the elevator, they comment on the weather. Like all small talk, it's an attempt to connect, however briefly, as we pass in the night.
"I like it here," said the man. "Where I'm from, in Pakistan, you know, it's sunny all the time, you take it for granted. Here, the sun comes out, everyone is happy."
"It is nice," I agreed.
"Of course, in Pakistan, they wait for the rain. When it comes, they have a party."
"I'd love to see that," I told him.
We all walk under the same sun. The rain falls on all of us. And we all honor the weather and seasons in our own way.
